There is Trick to auto end the running tasks and application which are running to enable a proper computer shutdown in Windows XP. This Trick can make your computer to run properly for a long period time.

To use this Trick follow the simple steps mentioned below:


  • Open Notepad.
  • Copy and Paste the following code into Notepad :
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"ClearPageFileAtShutdown"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop]
"AutoEndTasks"="1"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control]
"WaitToKillServiceTimeout"="1000"
  • Save this File as ProperShutdown.reg.
  • Run this File and Restart your Computer.
  • Now it is done.

Note : If the Antivirus Software warns a malicious script than don't worry, it's normal and safe.


So it is a simple Trick to enable a proper Shutdown in Windows XP.
