Parents getting into Legal Trouble
Most parents want to be the best they could be for their children; however, the fact remains that parents are far from perfect. They make mistakes too, and these mishaps can result to serious legal ramifications.

Believe it or not, mothers and fathers around the world have been arrested for doing the darndest things that usually involve their children. As a parent, you need to be familiar with some of the dumb ways parents have gotten arrested.

1) Abusing Children

Raising a child can take a toll on a parent's patience. Parents may wish that their child would sit quietly and behave for once. A few parents who desperately want to keep it quiet take their need too far. Sometimes they forget themselves and commit the grave act of child abuse. If you are a parent and you have the urge to tie your child to a tree, you must first slowly count from one to ten.

2) Being Overly Competitive

There are some people who are very competitive, especially when it comes to sports. They take their love for the game to a whole new level and into the realm of violence. For instance, overly competitive parents might start fights and arguments, or send threats to coaches when their child loses a game.

Keep in mind that threats and fights can lead to assault and battery charges. So before you become too hot-headed at a game, you need to take the time out or you might end up in the penalty box known as jail. Talk about being a terrible sport and a sore loser.

3) Shoplifting

With today's economy, it is practical to be frugal; however, some parents take frugality to a whole new level. There have been reports regarding mothers who got arrested for shoplifting in the hopes to save more. What they have failed to realized is that a shoplifting conviction can lead to jail time and hefty fines.

4) Texting or Driving with a Child in their Lap

It is understandable for parents to multi-task; however, they must avoid putting their children in harm's way while doing so. For instance, there was this one mother in California who got arrested for texting while driving with her toddler in her lap. To avoid getting into trouble with the law, do not use your mobile phone while driving, and make sure that your child is properly secured in your car.

5) Drunk Driving

This is a traffic offense that can land any driver behind bars. But if a drunk parent decides to get behind the wheel with children on board, he or she can face more serious legal ramifications. Do not wait for your child to call for help from the backseat to report your DUI.

6) Mothers Putting on Makeup while Driving

This is a very common mistake that can lead to an arrest. Mothers need to understand that driving needs their full attention and using their concentration to put on their makeup is unwise, especially when children are on board. A five-second lapse in concentration can lead to major car crashes.

7) Serving Alcohol in Teen Parties

There are some parents who want to prove that they are totally cool, and that they are down for a good party. Unfortunately, this can lead to severe consequences. As a parent, you should keep in mind that you can get arrested if you provide or serve alcohol to a houseful of underage teenagers.

These are just a few of the things that some parents do that can get them arrested. To that end, you must avoid committing these grave mistakes. You should always serve as a role model for your children; thus, you must be responsible for your actions and behavior.
