Here is the trick to rename My Computer.
- Open the Registry Editor by clicking Start >> Run >> regedt32 >> OK.
- Expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}.
- Rename the value named “LocalizedString” to “LocalizedString.orig”.
- Create a new REG_EXPAND_SZ value named “LocalizedString”, and set the value to “%computer-name%”. Set your computer name in “%computer-name%” of your choice.
- Exit the registry editor, Right Click on your desktop and Click Refresh. The My Computer icon should now be renamed to the name you specified.
